Matching his popularity on and off the cricket field, the biopic of star cricketer MS Dhoni made Rs 20.60 crore on the second day of its release. That takes its tally to Rs 41.90 crore, and it’s heading towards a Rs 60 cr weekend total. If that happens then it will be only the second film to do so this year. Dangal will hold the record of the highest opening weekend collections in 2016.

Sushant Singh Rajput is playing the title role in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, which is directed by Neeraj Pandey. Produced by Fox Star Studios and Arun Pandey, the film released in over 4,500 screens in India.
The film is the biggest non-festive opener of all time and is the biggest opener for biopic genre in the country. “Like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, Dhoni, too, enjoys a huge fan following thanks to his great cricketing career. This is one of the main reasons the film has clicked with the audience,” said film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi.
The film stars Kiara Advani as Dhoni’s wife Sakshi besides Disha Patani, Anupam Kher and Bhumika Chawla. “We thank India for this overwhelming love for the biopic on Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life. He is the son of the soil and its absolutely amazing to see we have lived up to the expectations of the cricket fans, his fans and the movie-going audience,” said Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios.
