As the name suggests, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next, Bajirao Mastani, is a period film that revolves around the story of Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I. While the film-maker is currently busy shooting for the film, he apparently invited the 10th and 11th generation of the Peshwa family from Pune to the film’s set on Monday (August 17).
A source from the movie’s unit says that Bhansali wanted them to see how the film is shaping up. “Around 13 members from Bajirao’s family came from Pune. They were welcomed with garlands. They were excited about meeting the cast. They also praised Bhansali for the grand set,” says the insider. The movie features Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
Apparently, the guests also had long chats with Ranveer and Deepika about how they prepared for their characters. The makers had also arranged for special gifts for the family. “Ranveer and Deepika gifted Paithani saris to the female members of the family, and shawls to the men,” says the source.
When contacted, Bhansali confirmed the news, and said, “It was amazing to meet the members of the Peshwa family on Monday. It was Peshwa Bajirao’s 315th birth anniversary. The experience was really fulfilling for me as a film-maker.”
