Lieutenant general Om Prakash today took over as the general officer commanding (GOC) of the Army's strategic Srinagar-based 15 Corps.
Lt gen Prakash has succeeded Lt gen Syed Ata Hasnain, who will take over as the military secretary at the Army headquarters in New Delhi.
An infantry officer belonging to the Kumaon regiment, Lt Gen Prakash has commanded the Siachen brigade in the Ladakh region and an Army division in Rajouri area of Jammu region.
Outgoing Army commander of the 15 Corps, lt gen Hasnain had served in Kashmir in the Commander's capacity for nearly 19 months.
Lt gen hasnain travelled across the Kashmir valley during his tenure spreading the message of 'heart as weapon'.
