Faced with a steep financial crisis and mounting deficit, North Delhi Municipal Corporation has come up with a novel idea to generate extra revenue by installing ATM machines in its new toilets.

“NDMC will make provision for installing ATMs in its toilet complexes while formulating policy for their upkeep and maintenance,” said North Delhi mayor Ravindra Yadav.

“As per the scheme, NDMC will issue tenders for construction of 150 new toilet complexes in the municipal area which will be completed in the next four months,” he said.

The municipal officials concerned have been directed for designing new toilet complexes with enough space which could be auctioned for installing ATMs by interested banks.

The Corporation is making all out efforts to provide services in a better way to the people and earn revenue, said the mayor.

Income from this scheme will also be used for improving services at these toilets and their better upkeep, Gupta said.

“We are also working on formulating a policy for auctioning of space for ATMs and coaching centres at schools,” he added.
