Brijesh Singh’s other claim to fame is the fact that he worked for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. In 1991, he was involved in the murder of a gangster, Shailesh Haldankar, and three policemen in the sensational JJ Hospital murder case in Mumbai.
Singh, along with aide Tribhuvan Singh, gunned down a sub-inspector, two Maharashtra Police constables and Haldankar, the frontman of Arun Gawli. Police said Singh executed the killings on the orders of Dawood, who suspected Hadlankar was involved in the murder of his brother-in-law Ibrahim Parker.
The murder was committed in broad daylight and two patients were also killed in the shootout. For the crime, Singh was booked under TADA.
Following this incident, and due to his links with Dawood, a red corner notice was issued by the Interpol against Singh.
“We will be interrogating Singh in detail. We want to know about his links with Dawood Ibrahim and his financial transactions,” said a senior police officer.
