It’s that brief respite between Dussehra-Diwali and Christmas-New Year, you do know it’s time to make amends — for all the kaju katli and pedas, the partying and binging. And to help you do that without resorting to the same old salads and soups, we asked nutritionists to broaden our horizons.
What do detox remedies look like in Japan, South America, rural Italy? The answers were intriguing, offering a rash of new tried-and-true recipes that guarantee more flavour even as you keep the calorie count low.
“My nutritionist advised me to try making a special pudding with chia seeds, as they do in Mexico, and it tasted amazing and helped detox my system too,” says Yamita Sheikh, 24, a marketing professional from Khar.
The stereotype that detox is just about cleansing the system by quitting sugar, caffeine, alcohol and high carbs is breaking and people are opting instead for delicious meals with exotic ingredients, says Ritu Srivastava, nutrition consultant and founder of healthcare app Obino.
So go beyond the usual and try cross-cultural detox recipes to shed the festive weight. (They make for good Instagram pictures too... #justsaying).
