One soldier was killed and another injured as the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid in J-K’s Tangdhar on Thursday.
BSF soldiers manning the border intercepted a group of militants attempting to cross into India and one soldier was killed in the resulting gunfight, an army spokesperson said.
As of filing this report, exchange of gunfire with militants was still ongoing.
Thursday’s incident is part of a series of conflicts along the Line of Control and the International Border in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
In a separate incident, also on Thursday, a Pakistani Ranger was killed and another injured in retaliatory firing by the BSF in response to shelling on 15 Indian posts and nearly 30 hamlets along the International Border in RS Pura and Arnia sub sectors of Jammu district.
One BSF jawan was killed and seven were injured, two of them critically, in the fire exchange.
