The Khar police on Sunday took former CEO of INX media Indrani Mukerjea to her Worli residence for further investigations in the case where they reconstructed the scene of crime.
Police sources said Indrani showed them how she, along with the other accused, came to the house after allegedly murdering Sheena Bora on April 24, 2012, and where the car with the body was parked in the garage.
Indrani is the main conspirator and has been arrested, along with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai. Police sources said they wanted to verify things which would be of evidential value in the Worli residence where Indrani stayed with her husband Peter, former CEO of Star.
“We wanted clarity on the investigations on the sequence of events, how the accused came to the residence after the murder, the position of each accused. Also what they did the next day on April 25, 2012, while taking Sheena’s body for disposal. Where the make-up and combing of hair was done in the car needed to be ascertained,” the source added.
Meanwhile, a few emails sent by Indrani before and after the murder will be used as evidence against her. The police are relying heavily on digital evidence to try and establish the conspiracy.
Investigators claimed an ‘important’ email sent by Indrani on March 8, 2012, weeks before the murder supposedly to Khanna, has led them to believe it was planned. Apart from this email, two others — sent on May 4, 2012, and August 7, 2012 — have been recovered by the police.
Investigators said the email before the murder was sent from Indrani’s account while the two sent afterwards were from a fake ID she created using Sheena’s name. The emails sent from Sheena’s fake account originated from the UK, where Indrani and her husband Peter were living.
According to Peter’s statement, he had confronted Indrani about Sheena’s disappearance after his son Rahul told him she was missing and was last picked up by her mother for dinner. This led to fights between Peter and Indrani.
But Peter told the police that things normalised after he and his stepchildren Vidhie and Mikhail began receiving emails from Sheena. The police have also seized Khanna’s laptop as well as two laptops and two mobile phones from Indrani’s home.
