A woman killed her husband after he allegedly tried to rape her minor daughter in Bihar’s Katihar district on Sunday night, police said.

The incident occurred at Kumharwa village under Kadwa police station. After killing her husband, the woman along with her children reached police station on Monday morning and confessed her crime to the police.

Draupadi Devi(35) hacked her husband Sunil Rishi (40) with an axe when she saw him trying to molest their daughter.

“I have committed the crime but it was my duty to protect my daughter from my husband’s grisly act,” she told reporters at the police station.

“What I saw was quite horrifying and what I did was absolutely right,” she said, adding that she was ready to accept the punishment. “I was suspicious of Rishi’s behaviour earlier also because my daughter had complained about it,” said Devi.

On the other hand, the deceased’s brother Ramesh Rishi alleged that his brother was killed by a Thakur Rishi at the instance of his ‘bhabhi’ (Draupadi Devi).

Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Chandrika Prasad said, “The woman herself committed the crime, therefore, police would lodge an FIR on the basis of her daughter’s statement.” Meanwhile, the police have sent the body to Katihar district hospital for post-mortem examination.
