The girl, who lives in a Goregaon chawl, was alone at home when the incident took place on Monday.

Rajesh Gupta, who is her neighbour, went to her house on Monday evening. On finding her alone, he tried to touch her inappropriately and forcibly kissed her. He fled after this. When the girl’s parents returned, she told them what had happened. They registered a complaint with the Goregaon police on Tuesday.

The Goregaon police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

They traced him to his workplace outside Malad railway station and he was arrested. He was produced before a metropolitan court that remanded him in police custody, officials said.
