Leading foreign players will compete alongside their Indian counterparts in March next year when the inaugural Polo League is scheduled to kick off. The announcement was made in Jaipur by polo player Chirag Parekh, who has mooted the six-team league.
The league will be played in a floodlit polo ground and the player auction will be held in January next year. The matches will be played in a “brand new format” and each team will have four players.
Commenting on the launch, Parekh said, “It is an emotional moment for me as I announce this polo League. It has not been a journey that I have traversed alone, the whole fraternity has shown full support. I am grateful to everyone and I hope that all of us together can take the sport of polo to newer heights with this league.”
