The Amritsar Police claimed to have arrested four persons and seized a car with 15-kg opium, which they had allegedly brought to supply in Amritsar on Thursday.

The accused nabbed by the police were identified as Mohammad Ehsaan; Mohammad Jafar; Mohammad Musaib Alam and Ghanshyam. While the first three residents are from Jharkhand, the fourth belongs to New Delhi.

In a press conference on Thursday, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) (crime) Lakhbir Singh said, “A secret input was received by inspector Vavinder Mahajan that a swift car was moving in the city to supply opium. It was also learnt that a special cavity is made in the car to hide the consignment. As a car like the one described in the tip-off was intercepted near Mahal bypass, a detailed check was done which revealed the cavity near the petrol tank and bumper. On checking, 15 packets of opium were recovered from the cavity.”

ADCP said the probe is on to find the source from where the opium was procured and also the place where the delivery was to be made.
