A day after gangster Davinder Bambiha was gunned down in an encounter at Gill Kalan village near Rampura, police will scrutinise data from his laptop and two mobile phones, recovered from his possession on Friday. Police aim at collecting information about his gang and people associated with him, especially his social media account handlers.

Bambiha, 25, who was wanted for six murders, including that of Khwajke sarpanch Ravi Khwajke at a Ludhiana wedding on February 20, received there bullets in his chest during a four-hour operation launched by the crime investigation agency to nab him from Gill Kalan village in Bathinda district on Friday.

Being active on social media, Bambiha used to brag about his crimes on facebook, especially after killing Khwajke. In the FB post on March 9, he even threatened some Punjabi singers and politicians for supporting Khwajke. However, minutes after Bambiha’s encounter, unknown handlers removed photographs from his FB account, reportedly created by him after he escaped from police custody on January 20, 2015.

Police officials said Bambiha was also involved in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) racket recently busted by Amritsar police. “The police are trying to get as much details regarding the IELTS racket from his laptop,” an official said. Four persons, including Bambiha’s close aide, Manga, were arrested on the charges of providing answer keys to candidates for Rs 30,000-Rs 40,000 each.

Senior superintendent of police Swapan Sharma said a special team is working to extract data from Bambiha’s laptop as it might help get important leads about the movement of the gangs operating in the state. “Bambiha’s accomplice Tara Dosandh, who was injured in the gunfight, will be interrogated once doctors declare him fit,” SSP said.

RIVAL GANGS HAIL ENCOUNTER

Bambiha’s rivals —Jaggu Bhagwanpur and Sukha Kahlwan gangs — hailed his encounter on their ‘multiple’ facebook accounts. Bhagwanpur, who is lodged in the Amritsar jail, referred Bambiha as a ‘child’ in his post uploaded on Saturday. On August 11, Bambiha had kidnapped Dilbag Singh “Lamma Patti” of Bhagwanpura gang and killed him.
