The ban on plying of 15-year-old commercial vehicles in Chandigarh was from September 1, and challaning drive was to begin on Thursday.

Across categories, commercial and others, the UT has 12.7 lakh vehicles now, while the population is around 12 lakh. In 2010, there were 7.5 lakh vehicles. Figures say over 4,000 new vehicles are registered every month here.
