Punnamada Kayal celebrates Mohanlal as a family man and Kerala as a culture.

A song titled Punnamada Kayal from Mohanlal’s upcoming film Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol (When the Grapevines Sprout) was unveiled on Saturday. It is picturised largely around the famous boat race (Vallam Kali) of Kerala.

The song captures Malayalam superstar Mohanlal as a fun-loving family man. His moments of mischief with his wife, his happy-go-lucky way with his teenage daughter and a caring gesture with his ageing parents et al is captured rather well. What you also notice is how rooted the film is. There is no mistaking its ‘Malayali-ness’ and that’s wonderful! There is a feel-good vibe to the song, accentuated by Kerala’s lush greenery.

The film revolves around a married, middle-aged man who has an extra marital affair. Directed by Jibu Jacob, the film also stars Meena who played Mohanlal’s wife in the highly successful Drishyam. The actor recently delivered a huge hit Pulimurugan, which became the first Malayalam film to gross Rs 100 crore.
