Actor Laksh Lalwani is on a high. After being a part of shows such as Adhuri Kahaani Hamari and Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil, he will play the lead role in Porus. Based on the life of the king of the Pauravas around 340 BC, it’s being touted as the most expensive show on Indian television.

Calling it a one-of-its-kind show, Laksh says, “The pressure on me is not about the kind of finances my show has, but how different it is. From the makers to writers, everyone is excited.”

Is the show taking any different an approach from the historical shows seen on TV? “The concept of the show has never been brought to India before. We have seen (shows on) Prithviraj Chauhan, Ashoka and Bajirao, too, but many people have not even heard about Porus. This will be the first time they will see his life on screen, and it is nothing less than a film. It might just also be ahead of Baahubali 2!”

Since the research material about the historical character is rather scarce, Laksh says he had to begin from scratch to prepare for the show. “I had to read up on the internet, work on the tempo of my dialogue delivery with a teacher. Even the way I walk had to be crafted carefully. About 60-70 percent of the personality you [will] see [in the show] is mine,” says the actor.
