Now this: An old woman says there must be an end to governance by leaders who don’t understand the ground realities of ordinary people. The DMK’s rising sun follows her passionate plea.

The catch? The woman cast in the ads of the two political parties is the same.

GT Kasturi, popularly known as Kasturi Paati (grandmother in Tamil), has become an overnight sensation after bemused viewers saw her in the ads for the bitter rivals of Dravidian politics.

“I am shocked. I wasn’t told by the casting agent that I would be acting in a DMK ad,” Kasturi, who has appeared in over 300 films over the last 25 years, told Tamil magazine Vikatan. “I thought I was only appearing in Amma’s ad.”

Even the most astute of political analysts could not have predicted that the common link between the two Dravidian majors could be a former All India Radio actor.
