First-of-its-kind research and development cell set up under DGP

The R&D cell, established on the lines of major police departments of the world, would be first-of-its kind R&D cell in India which would function directly under the DGP.

The Madhya Pradesh police established a research and development (R&D) cell under the aegis of director general of police (DGP) of MP, Rishi Kumar Shukla, on Tuesday.

The R&D cell, established on the lines of major police departments of the world, would be first-of-its kind R&D cell in India which would function directly under the DGP.

“The cell would help the department evaluate initiatives of the police and innovations for better policing in the state. The cell would also conduct research on welfare of police, role of women police personnel and the victims of crime to tackle crime in an effective and efficient manner,” said Shukla.

State co-ordinator of R&D cell, superintendent of police Vinit Kapoor, said the cell would work in collaboration with leading and renowned institutes and universities across the world.

“The cell would work in collaboration with institutes like Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and National Law University, Delhi to conduct research. The cell will comprise police officials and various researchers and will become fully functional by October 1,” said Kapoor.
