The man has now been booked for attempted murder, while the woman has been admitted at the District Hospital in Narsighpur town.

The incident took place at Barman town of the district, about 271 km east from Bhopal.

According to police, Angad Thakur, 28, had an argument with his wife Arti, 25, after which he threw acid on her and fled.

Arti was rushed to the hospital by neighbours who heard her screams.

“The accused is on the run. Police teams are carrying out searches and conducting raids at possible hideouts,” superintendent of police, Narsighpur, Manish Kapuria told HT.

Sources said the argument could have stemmed from monetary issues, with the husband apparently angered at his wife seeking money to pay for groceries.

The couple lives with their two children and the husband ran a tea shop, a business that did not make the family much money.
