MP: Woman sets herself, son ablaze in Rewa district

A 28-year-old woman set herself afire along with her five-year-old-son in Rewa district, about 536 km from Bhopal on Monday. Police are yet to ascertain the reason that prompted her to take the extreme step.

Police are yet to ascertain the reason that prompted her to take the extreme step.

The incident took place at Gauhana village under Jawa police station of the district. The woman's husband Virendra Mishra lives in Delhi and works at a private company. Police said the woman Vandana Mishra locked herself and her son inside her room and committed suicide at about 4 am.

When the woman's in-laws noticed the fire inside the room, they broke open the door with the help of a neighbour and rushed the woman and her son to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa town, where both died during treatment.

On receiving information from the hospital, the police went to the hospital and registered a case.
