Responding to queries, Rahul said he did not know whether or not Singh would be taken into the party.

But in a lighter vein, he said, "since Singh was above 35, he could not join Youth Congress".

Amar Singh's resignation from all SP posts was recently accepted by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The sulking SP leader had recalled in an interview that he had started in Congress and "my DNA is not anti-Congress" and that he admired Rahul Gandhi.

He had also praised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her "benevolent" attitude towards the late Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar during his last critical years of ailment.
