Submit final report on Rihand reservoir within two weeks: NGT

Only days after the empowered core committee constituted by National Green Tribunal sought more time to submit its final report on damages to environment and locals around Rihand Reservoir, the tribunal has directed the panel to submit its final report within two weeks.

Only days after the empowered core committee constituted by National Green Tribunal sought more time to submit its final report on damages to environment and locals around Rihand Reservoir, the tribunal has directed the panel to submit its final report within two weeks.

The NGT has also directed the empowered panel to upload the report on the website of the Central Pollution Control Board for public viewing.

The principal bench of NGT, New Delhi, gave these directions while hearing a case filed file by advocate Ashwani Dubey.

The bench included justice UD Salvi, Justice MS Nambiar and expert members DK Agrawal, Prof AR Yousuf and Bikram Singh Sajwan.

The order was given during the hearing on Wednesday but the copy of the order was made available on Thursday.

The next hearing in the case is on July 21.

Rihand Sagar, spread over 466 sq kms in MP and Uttar Pradesh, is considered the largest manmade reservoir in India.

The Rihand dam is built over river Rihand, a tributary of the Son river, in UP’s Sonbhadra district.
