In a gory road accident in Madhya Pradesh, a speeding sports vehicle hit a five-year-old girl and carried her head stuck in its bumper 33 kilometres away from the spot, police said on Wednesday.
Her torso was recovered four kilometres further from the spot where her head was found, the police said.
The girl, identified as Manya Dubey, daughter of Manish Dubey, resident of Gubrakala village, was hit near her native place while she was crossing the road on Tuesday night. The village falls in Damoh district, about 108 kilometres from Jabalpur.
The police said when the driver, identified as Haitram Kol, didn’t stop the vehicle, the villagers chased him and caught him in Katni district, about 58 kilometres away from the spot of the accident. He has been arrested, police station town inspector (Saleemnabad) Sant Kumar Mishra said, adding he would be handed over to the Damoh police soon.
However, the police let go of the passengers, comprising some members of the family of the car owner who was identified only as Dr Bose, hailing from Maihar in Satna district. The family was returning after a medical check-up in Indore, the police said.
