Aditi Rao Hydari: It’s great that actors from non-film background are joining films
Actor Aditi Rao Hydari talks about the changing face of women in the film industry and how it’s a good sign that even outsiders from the industry are willing to join films.bollywood Updated: Jun 05, 2017 18:18 IST
Aditi Rao Hydari made a mark in Bollywood with films such as Yeh Saali Zindagi (2009), Guddu Rangeela (2015) and Wazir (2016). Reflecting upon the changing position of female actors in Bollywood, Aditi feels that the stature of women in the film industry is yet to undergo a change. However, female actors such as Richa Chadha, Taapsee Pannu, who don’t hail from an industry background, are on the top of their game with successful films to their credit.
“I would like to believe that it is changing, and it should be changing. I think the first change that has happened is the fact that there are so many girls from outside of the industry, who are joining films. So many of them are coming from different backgrounds and brining in their own strength, uniqueness, ideas about world, art and cinema,” says Aditi, who will be seen in the film Bhoomi.
The 30-year-old actor feels that it is a great change to see women in the film industry becoming more vocal about what they want to be portrayed as on-screen and filmmakers are listening too.
“It is because of us women in the [film] industry, that we want to bring about a change. We have that self respect and we want people to be with us together and not just objectify us. We want to be at the core of storytelling, at the core of an artistic vision. And because we believe in it and we want that, it will happen. That is what true empowerment is, for us to take decisions and have the courage to stand by them,” feels Aditi.
