Even though his role as a romantic in Mani Ratnam’s Guru was appreciated, R Madhavan’s independent career in Bollywood never kicked off in a big way. Until Raju Hirani’s 3 Idiots came along and cemented his position in the industry. Unlike his character in Hirani's film, Madhavan has no problems following his heart.

The actor, who was last seen in Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi, turned 40 in June this year and is now "taking a sabbatical till April 2011 to complete a bucket list of to-do things before turning 40." Even though he has already hit that age.

R MadhavanFed up of travelling for work, the actor first wants to spend all the time he can with his five-year-old son Vedant. "Then, I have to heal my knee injury, something that I have been avoiding for a while. I have to visit the hospital everyday for two months for the treatment." Apart from spending time with his family, he also plans to go on a "bike tour all over Europe around March and learn to play a piano."

Madhavan’s next release will be a Tamil romantic comedy Manmadhan Amdu where he will be seen alongside Kamal Haasan in December. The next Bollywood film up for release in February 2011, is Anand Rai’s Tanu Weds Manu, starring Kangna Ranaut. Even though Madhavan is not shooting for any film currently, he is launching 11 products from South Indian and national brands. "I feel it’s a sign of being accepted in the national mainstream market," says he.

After returning from the break, the actor will shoot for Vikram Kumar’s untitled tri-lingual (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) film. “I have worked with Vikram in 13B. He is fantastic,” says Madhavan who will also do a Tamil film with director Linguswamy. Will the Vidya Balan-Madhavan chemistry make a comeback after Guru? “We both are keen on doing a film together but nothing has worked out yet. When I come back hopefully something will happen,” says Madhavan.
