Abhinav Kashyap's second directorial venture Besharam made an opening collection of Rs 21.6 crore on Gandhi Jayanti, the day of its release. However, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer could not maintain the momentum on Thursday.

The earnings at ticket windows dropped to Rs 7 crore on the second day. The reasons for the significant slip in collections could be either a bad word of mouth or the fact that Wednesday was only a mid-week holiday and the weekend is yet to come.

The film that also stars Pallavi Sharda, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in pivotal roles, was not received well by the critics either. But going by the first day earnings at box office, the filmmakers may hope for a surge during the weekend.

The major contribution for day one collection came from Mumbai (Rs around 7.17 crore). The movie collected Rs 5.18 crore from Delhi and UP jointly.

Abhinav Kashyap's second directorial venture did decent business overseas as well. The eanings averaged at NZ$6,537 ( Rs. 3.36 lakhs) for New Zealand and £58,494 ( Rs. 58.80 lakhs) for the UK. It earned A$14,646 (Rs 8.51 lakhs) in Australia.
