Director Anees Bazmee’s latest film Mubarakan received mix reviews and it was expected to impress family audiences. The other highly controversial film that released alongside it, Indu Sarkar, failed to take off at the box office as critics didn’t favour it. The third release of this week, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Raag Desh targeted a niche audience base, so it was never a competition for Mubarakan which released in close to 3,000 screens.

It’s not a free run for Mubarakan at the box office.

However, what didn’t allow Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor-starrer Mubarakan a free run at the box office was a small yet well-crafted film which became its main opposition in its second week. We are talking about Konkona Sensharma, Ratna Pathak Shah’s Lipstick Under My Burkha which is going from strength to strength at the ticket window.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted the business figures of these two films. While Mubarakan recorded a total collection of Rs 12.63 crore in its first two days, Lipstick Under My Burkha looked steady at a total tally of Rs 13.27 crore given its limited release.

If Mubarakan continues its pace on Sunday then it may inch closer to be declared a commercially successful film.
