After a promising entry into Bollywood with box-office hits like Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008), I Hate Luv Storys (2010) and Delhi Belly (2011), among others, Imran Khan’s career took a slump in 2013 with back-to-back flops. Discussing what went wrong, the actor says that what he thought were 'smart choices', didn’t deliver what he expected out of them.

“You can’t predict a film’s fate,” he says, adding, “Last year, I was making choices that were lauded by the industry and the media. So, at that time, obviously, they seemed smart choices. But none of them panned out the way I expected.”

The 31-year-old also reveals that last year was rather hectic for him with several projects in his kitty. “My intent in life is to do one or two films a year. Nowadays, that’s how every actor works. But last year, I found myself in a position where I wasn’t happy with the way I was working, and I wasn’t able to focus on anything entirely,” says Imran.

While the actor admits that the debacles have been 'discouraging', the flops weren’t 'gutting' according to him. “There is no actor who hasn’t seen back-to-back flops,” he says, adding that there are two things that he has learnt from this experience. “The only two decisions you can make are — do you find the film interesting, and do you want to work with the people? For me, that has always been the thing, but now it has been underlined,” he says.

Imran, who became father to a baby girl earlier this year, is finally looking at getting back to work after Diwali with Nikhil Advani’s next. “I reached a point where I started to get a little angsty and wanted to get back to work,” he says, adding, “We were supposed to start a month back, but the film got a little delayed,” he adds.
