Happy Birthday Deepika Padukone: Five times the actor poured her heart out to fans
As actor Deepika Padukone turns 32 today, we take a look at her statements that were beyond Bollywood and her life as an actor.
Actor Deepika Padukone’s fan following has increased with every film ever since she made her Bollywood debut with Om Shanti Om (2007). As the actor turns 32 today, we take a look at five times when the actor spoke about issues beyond Bollywood and her star status.

On life after breakup with Ranbir Kapoor

It was very, very difficult for me because, I think, the relationship became my world. I was new to the city, so his friends became my friends and that life became my life. And I don’t think I made the effort to have my own life. I think that relationship really taught me a lot, when it ended. It’s made me a better person today and he says it himself.
Ranbir and I don’t live in a movie. Did the breakup affect me? It’s not something that has crossed my mind. But moving on has made me a better person, and him too (I can quote him on that). That phase of my life makes me realise one shouldn’t be too attached to one person.
On live - in relationships

There are all kinds of relationships, all kinds of equations. I may not personally endorse them but I’ve begun to accept and understand that it’s all okay. I’m nobody to judge the equations, however strange they may be. But at the same time, I go back to my home and live in the traditional way in which I’ve been brought up. I’ll only move in with my husband. There’s no question of a live-in relationship.
On rumoured boyfriend Ranveer Singh

“He’s a wonderful person. He has the ability to walk into a room and make you feel like you’re the most important person in the world. And it’s not just with people he knows. He could be meeting someone for the first time and make him feel like they’re best friends. That’s God given. That’s why he gets so much love. We’re in a similar space in terms of our age, where we’re coming from in our lives. There’s a lot of similarity between us, he doesn’t come from a film background. He’s also relatively new to the industry. We have a great time together. He makes me laugh a lot. He makes me feel special. That’s it. If I’m in a relationship, I’ll talk about it.”
On Battling Depression

“Being sad and being depressed are two different things. Also, people going through depression don’t look so, while someone sad will look sad. The most common reaction is, ‘How can you be depressed? You have everything going for you. You are the supposed number one heroine and have a plush home, car, movies… What else do you want?’ It’s not about what you have or don’t have. People talk about physical fitness, but mental health is equally important. I see people suffering, and their families feel a sense of shame about it, which doesn’t help. One needs support and understanding.”
On Career goals

“Success is always all about being someone you want to be. I don’t think you are being honest otherwise. I moved to another city at the age of 18 or 19. Being in sports early on taught me to handle success just as it taught me to handle failure.”
