Nearly every actor’s career has its highs and lows, with a lot of celebrities having more flops to their name than box-office hits. But Ajay Devgn maintains that he has never seen any “major setback” in his life.

Ajay Devgn will be seen in his upcoming film Shivaay, which is clashing with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

“I’ve been very lucky. Ever since I started acting, I haven’t seen a major setback in my life. There was no year when I was down and out (in my career). I have always worked hard, but there has been no struggle,” he says.

Speaking about hard work, Ajay, who runs his own production house, says that helming such an operation takes a lot of effort as well. The actor says, “You have to put in more hours of work. But it’s not very tough (to run a production company) if you have a good team to work with.”

Ajay is known to be a private person. However, it has now become essential for celebrities to market themselves and their films to fight competition and attract audiences, especially with the accelerated adoption of the Internet and online media portals. Ask Ajay if he approves of this trend, and he says, “Honestly, deep down, I don’t. But I’m pushed to do it, so I have to. I miss the days when we didn’t even know when our films were released. We used to find out how our movies fared a week after their release.”

He adds that people need to be “reminded” of upcoming films through social media. “Earlier, the pace was slower. People used to wait for a movie; they didn’t have 10,000 things to do. Now, anything on social media goes viral in a minute. The audience is connected on social media [with actors, directors, etc.], which has become a major part of promotions.”
