Munni’s charm refuses to die down as a bevy of Bollywood item numbers, with the same rustic feel, will hit the silver screen this year.
Malaika as Munni
After actor Malaika Arora Khan set the screen ablaze with Munni Badnaam in 2010’s big hit, Dabangg, many item numbers such as Sheila Ki Jawaani, Razia, Jalebi Bai and Shalu Ke Thumke hit the big screen. We bring a list of item numbers for this year — all with the same rustic feel, and vying for a similar success rate.
Katrina as Chameli
Actor Katrina Kaif doesn’t believe in any comparisons with other actors. The song might have Munni’s rustic feel or Kareena Kapoor’s title of Bollywood’s Chameli but Kat says, “It’s unfair to compare it with anyone else’s work as every individual has their own style.” Chameli has carved its own set of audience, but the backdrop and appearance of the song remain similar to Munni.
Rakhi in Rakthbeej
Item girl Rakhi Sawant will be doing an item number in the film, Rakthbeej. Disappointed with other female actors-turned-item girls, who are eating up her work, Rakhi had said: “Actresses hain to acting karo, item numbers kyu karte ho ye mera kaamhai (actresses should act, why should they do item numbers, that's my job). Some can’t even dance to save their lives yet get offers and big bucks... main aadhe paise mein unse acha kar sakti hun.”( I can do better at half the price)
Vidya in Ferrari Ki Sawari
After being a hot-selling item in The Dirty Picture, actor Vidya Balan will now raise the hotness quotient with an item song in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Ferrari Ki Sawari. This number too, has a rustic backdrop and will see Vidya in an ultra-glam avatar. The choreographer hasn’t been finalised yet, but Vidya has started working to lose weight to look her fittest best. She is expected to shoot the song next month.
Veena in and as Channo
After doing her first Bollywood item number for Tere Naal Ishq Ho Gaya, Pakistani actor Veena Malik has signed another item song for Akshaye Khanna’s Gali Gali Mein Chor Hai. The Munni connection here is that Mamta Sharma of the Munni Badnaam Hui fame, has given her voice to it. Veena sports a tight choli and knee length lehenga for the song.
