My professional and personal life is going brilliantly: Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor reveals why she hasn’t signed a film after her last hit, Neerja; says she is content with her personal and professional life right now.
After sashaying down the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival in stunning outfits, Sonam Kapoor has just returned to the country. The actor got a thumbs up from the fashion police at the film festival. Here, Sonam talks about her experience at Cannes, her film career, and more.
You were praised by everyone at Cannes this year. How does it feel?
It really doesn’t matter to me. I go to Cannes for the brand I endorse, and I love dressing up. I wanted to showcase some element of India with every outfit I wore. As long as I am comfortable with what I am wearing, I don’t care about what other people think. I always hope to represent the Indian film industry and, more importantly, India, in a correct manner.

But are you happy with the positive response?
I have attended the festival several times, and I have always received a great response, except last year, when I got some criticism. In 2015, I flew to Cannes on the day I finished shooting for Neerja. But, I felt really beautiful last year as well. Usually, I don’t think about what people say. I always dress for myself.
Does dressing up for an event like Cannes ever get tiring?
Not at all. It’s great fun. Also, it’s great to be on a platform that helps you evolve as an artiste and as a human being. Cannes is a stepping stone towards that evolution. When you meet people from different walks of life and countries, you get varied viewpoints and your mind opens up. I want to evolve, and become a better artiste and human being.
Post Neerja, you haven’t signed a new film. Why?
I don’t exactly know what I want to take up next. I haven’t come across anything incredible and inspiring that will push me to do better. I have to be inspired either by the script or by the people I work with. I want to work with someone who helps me evolve as a person and as an artiste. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a lead role.

Are you happy with the way your career is panning out? (What did you do different this time around?)
I am in a happy space right now. My professional life is going brilliantly. Also, my friendships, my family and my personal life, touchwood, looks fantastic. I have nothing to complain about. I am really content. I am not trying to prove a point to anyone. I am just trying to have a good time, work hard with my head down.

Are you happy with the way things are panning out in your life?

Rumours suggest that you and Alia Bhatt are in the running for film-maker Aanand L Rai’s next with Shah Rukh Khan.
I would love to work with him and Shah Rukh. Apparently, everyone is talking about this film, but Aanand sir has never spoken to me about it. I’m sure he always considers me [for his films], as he and I share a close relationship. He treats me like his own daughter. I love working with him, and want to be part of every film he makes. If it is a good role, and if he feels I fit the part, I am sure he will offer it to me because he cares about me. I am never going to say no to him.
What’s happening with your home production, which is going to be a multi-starrer?
It’s too early to talk about that; we are still in the process of casting for it.
You recently launched your own app. What prompted you to do so?
Every year, my tribe (her fans) grows. I have got an amazing response [for the app]. I love the fact that people want to know more and understand what’s going on in my life, and what it’s like to be a star. I want to reach out to as many people as possible.
