Neha Dhupia: I’ve always been on the stage to give awards; this was the first time I was getting one
Actor Neha Dhupia says that it has been a very fulfilling year as she was busy throughout with various projects.bollywood Updated: Dec 22, 2017 17:51 IST
Actor Neha Dhupia is overwhelmed, content and full of gratitude. Not just because she had her hands full throughout this year with a TV show, a radio show, live events and a successful film, but also because she got applauded for her hard work. The actor recently bagged the best supporting actor award for her performance in Tumhari Sulu, also starring Vidya Balan.
“I’ve been around [in the industry] for too long and I’ve always been on stage giving away awards, and I’ve never been on stage to receive it. It feels really amazing. You have no idea. I still keep looking at it. Rather the night when I got the award, I literally slept with it, in my bed,” shares Neha, who has been nominated seven times earlier for various awards. The actor adds that she would not like to look at it as a great year-end but a new beginning.
I wanna say so much!!! @sureshtriveni @balanvidya Mom ( @babsdhupia ) Dad you knew before I or the world did ki #MainKarSaktiHai!! Believe in your dreams People!! You don’t need godfathers. You just need God. Waheguru 🙏🏼 thank you #starscreenawards for giving me this huge honour of best supporting actor for #tumharisulu ... gosh! I’m still shaking with excitement 😇🙌 this ones for team @atulkasbekar @tanuj.garg @findingshanti @manavkaul @priyagupta999 @tseries.official @ellipsisentertainment #vijaymorea @mymalishka
This year, Neha was also seen in Hindi Medium and Qarib Qarib Singlle, and both the films garnered great response at the box office and were lauded by fans and critics alike. Asked if the wait has been worth it, she tells us, “I don’t think the wait was worth 15 years but yes, I definitely slowed down on the number of films that I was doing and lots of questions were asked. So, it was certainly worth my patience because I was choosing films that were content driven and then what part I was playing didn’t matter much.”
Does the fact that Neha won an award at a much later stage in her career help in re-instilling faith in oneself and the industry? “It has instilled my faith in the fact that ‘it’s still not over for me’. I’ve always been somebody who’s been standing on the sidelines, who has base a second option when something hasn’t worked out, not being on the top of everybody’s mind for whatever reasons. But still, I’ve had immense faith in myself and that belief that someone will one day believe in me, created magic,” shares an emotional Neha.
