Said to be a black comedy, Newton is directed by Amit V Masurkar (of Sulemani Keeda fame) and produced by Manish Mundra.

The first poster features Rajkummar Rao on the run with the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) and has the caption “Seedha Aadmi Ulti Duniya!”.

It is the story of Newton Kumar, who is a rookie government clerk sent on election duty in a Naxal-affected town inside the forests of Chhattisgarh. Faced with the apathy of security forces on one hand and the looming fear of guerrilla attacks by the Naxalites on the other, Newton tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the odds stacked against him, all with a dollop of humour.

Newton got a standing ovation at its world premiere at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival and also won the CICAE Art Cinema Award in the Forum segment.

Newton also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghuvir Yadav and Sanjay Mishra. The movie will be releasing on August 18.

Rajkummar Rao’s Behen Hogi Teri released on Friday.
