Raid trailer: Ajay Devgn wants to take on corruption, make an Akshay Kumar movie
The first trailer for Raid, starring Ajay Devgn as an income tax officer, was released on Tuesday, and it is a lot like the recent wave of social drama’s starring Akshay Kumar.Updated: Feb 06, 2018 12:04 IST
Star Ajay Devgn unveiled the first trailer for Raid, just a few hours after sharing the first poster for the social drama on Twitter. The film, set in 1981, tells the story of an income tax officer in Lucknow, who takes on the ‘powerful corrupt’ in an effort to help the poor.
Ajay plays an honest government officer, whose idealism has forced him to be transferred 49 times in seven years. Such is his idealism that he says that he will not quit fighting corruption even if he is transferred for a fiftieth time. His character reminds us of Rajkummar Rao’s election officer in Newton, but with more masala dialogues.
His adversary is a government official who tells him that no one can enter his house even to kill a fly, so the chances of him being raided are impossible. Ajay’s character then puts together a team, a lot like Akshay Kumar’s Baby, and gets cracking on the case.
At every turn, he is hounded by red tape, by other corrupt officers, and is threatened. But he carries on. There is even a stray line of dialogue about female empowerment, like Akshay Kumar’s other film, Padman. Looking at his wife, Ajay Devgn’s character declares that for India to become successful, the wives of the country’s officials need to be stronger than them.
Raid is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, who previously did Aamir and No One Killed Jessica. The film also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Saurabh Shukla. Raid is scheduled for a March 16 release.
