Remembering Sadhana: A playlist of her most popular songs

Veteran Bollywood actor Sadhana died at the age of 74 on Friday morning in Mumbai. Interestingly, when we think of Sadhana, some of the most peppy numbers and soulful romantic songs from Bollywood come to our minds. Sadhana, one of the first style icons of India, enthralled fans with her performances in films in the 60s and 70s. Her hits include names such as Hum Dono, Waqt, Mera Saaya and Woh Kaun Thi. She was rarely seen in public and last appeared onscreen in Shatrujit Paul’s Amaanat (1977).

From skin-hugging salwar-churidars to Sadhna cut hairstyle, the actor introduced a wave of style in the Indian fashion industry and her each look was followed closely by fans. Married to Love in Simla director Ramkrishna Nayyar, Sadhna didn’t have any kids.

Despite most of her films setting box office on fire, Sadhana had few awards to her credit. Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred upon her by IIFA in 2002. The famous song from Shree 420 (1955) is a Nadira song, but it also marks Sadhna’s first appearance on the silver screen. She is one of the chorus girls in the peppy number sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle.
