Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, SRK get on the experimental bandwagon

While SRK is likely to feature in Anurag Kashyap's futuristic crime thriller, Aamir Khan may appear in Ritesh Sidhwani's film based on time travel. Salman Khan, on the other hand may use heavy-duty VFX for his much-awaited Sher Khan!

They have been in Bollywood for over two decades now.

And naturally, the three Khans — Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman — have played all kinds of roles. But if all goes well, the trio will move into a completely new space, creatively as well as technically, in their forthcoming films.

To start with, SRK has apparently been approached by Anurag Kashyap for his ambitious venture, Alwyn Kalicharan. Based on a futuristic theme, Anurag’s story is set in a post-economic depression world, where most folks are jobless, and only live to seek pleasure.

In the quirky film, people sleep through the day and venture out to work at night. Insiders insist that "Anurag has met SRK regarding the project" but the film-maker remained unavailable for comment.

Reports also suggest that Aamir has been offered a love story that will have time travel as its theme, and will be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. To be helmed by Farhan’s former assistant, Nitya Mehra, makers are keen to start the film towards the end of 2014.

Although Ritesh says it’s "not true", sources insist that Aamir "has gone through the script and liked it too".

Salman, on the other hand, will have a tryst with heavy-duty VFX in brother Sohail Khan’s Sher Khan, touted to be an action-adventure set in a jungle. According to Sohail, the preparation alone for his ambitious venture will take a year and the film is likely to start only in 2017, considering Salman’s packed date diary.

"Sher Khan will make use of cutting-edge technology. We are going to work backwards on it. It will depend a lot on what technology is available in 2017. When we get bhai’s (Salman) dates, we’ll keep the script ready and then pre-production work will kick off," says Sohail, who — after watching VFX-loaded Life Of Pi (2012) — realised that Sher Khan needs more time.

Once upon a time…

Even as buzz surrounds Aamir’s time travel-based caper, in the past too, he had signed a science-fiction film titled Time Machine (1992). The film was shelved even after it had gone on the floors.

Helmed by Shekhar Kapur, it was also meant to star Raveena Tandon, Naseeruddin Shah and Rekha.

Back in 2003, Anurag Kashyap’s Alwyn Kalicharan was announced with Anil Kapoor in the lead. Even the first look of the film — a crime thriller set in Delhi’s Paharganj area — was revealed back then.
