Sanjay Dutt has lent his voice for two songs in his upcoming comedy flick Chatur Singh Two Star. The first song is titled Murga Anda Dega Do Oye Oye…, which is a hip hop track and the other is an item number called Singh Singh Chatur Singh Coming…

“We recorded the item song recently. I’m a very shy singer and it takes a lot of convincing to make me do it, but I enjoyed singing these two as they are different from those that I have sung earlier for Kaante (2002) and Khoobsurat (1999).” Prior to this, the actor also sung the song Aapke Dil Mein… for Asha Bhosle’s album, Asha & Friends.

In the film, Sanjay essays the role of a silly police officer, who thinks he’s doing all the right things, when all he does is get himself in a mess. “The movie is about how Chatur Singh manages to mess up in every situation and is a disgrace to the police department.” Sanjay’s bumbling cop character is handed a big case despite his clumsiness. But thanks to Sonia (Amisha Patel), he stumbles upon the right clues, leading to a sequence of hilarious events.

Isn’t that similar to The Pink Panther (2006)? “There is no similarity between the character Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) and Chatur Singh. None of the movies of that series worked in India. Why would we copy it?” asks Sanjay.

Adds producer Mohammad Aslam, “The film is based on a novel called Chalaak Jasoos written by a Nagpur-based writer M Raza. Sanjay’s character will be loved by kids and adults alike.” The film has been in news for almost two years.

Ask the producer about the delay and he says, “Owing to bad market conditions, we couldn’t find a proper release. However it hasn’t dimmed our markets. The satellite rights for the film that we produced for Rs 2–3 crore has been sold for Rs 8 crore.”

The film will release on August 19.
