Sanjay Dutt’s impending jail term hasn’t deterred Bollywood’s demand for the actor one bit. Even as he is expected to surrender today (May 16) with regards to the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, work on his comeback film has already begun. The currently untitled movie will be produced and directed by his friend, Sanjay Gupta.

“If he wasn’t going to jail, Gupta would have started the film immediately after Shootout At Wadala. But since Dutt will be serving the sentence, he has decided to start the film after his release,” says an industry insider.

Gupta has bought the rights to remake a Hollywood film for this project. “The character in this film will have something to do with Dutt’s role in Kaante (2002). In fact, Gupta was set to even approach Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor to star alongside Dutt in the film, but the jail term has put things on hold for now,” adds the insider.

Interestingly, Gupta has already started working on the script. He plans to discuss the drafts with Dutt via letters. Confirming the news, Gupta says, “I will use the Indian Postal Services to send across the versions of the scripts to him in jail. A few days ago, we had discussed the film over dinner. But now, I’ll wait for him to return. It’s going to be an action-drama, which will be a big dramatic comeback for him.”

At the time of going to print, Sanjay was supposed to surrender today (May 16).
