Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira earns Rs 5.15 crore on opening day

After Ghajini and Holiday, this is southern director AR Murugadoss’ third film in Hindi.

This week’s big Bollywood release Akira has failed to start on a bright note. The Sonakshi Sinha-starrer has earned Rs 5.15 crore on the opening day. The film gathered momentum after initial hiccups. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the first day collection of the film.

Akira is Sonakshi Sinha’s entry into the world of Bollywood actioners.

Akira features Sinha as a Jodhpur girl who comes to Mumbai to pursue higher education. The story revolves around four policemen who are desperate to cover their tracks after committing a heinous crime. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap plays a corrupt cop in the film.

For Sonakshi Sinha, Akira is a significant point of departure. Her career has thus far hung by the coattails of the likes of Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn. This is the first film which completely relies on her shoulders.
