Director Anees Bazmee’s new film Welcome Back is off to a flier. The film, starring John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles, collected Rs 14.35 crore on its opening day. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted about the first day collection of the film.
#WelcomeBack has an EXCELLENT Day 1... Fri ₹ 14.35 cr. India biz... Biz should MULTIPLY further over the weekend. SUPER!— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) September 5, 2015
Welcome Back is the sequel of 2007 film Welcome which featured Akshay Kumar in the lead role. It was later declared as the second highest grosser of 2007 after Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om.
In the new film, John Abraham plays a Mumbai goon who falls in love with Uday Shetty’s (Nana Patekar) sister. Later, he has to face the wrath of Uday and Majnu Bhai (Anil Kapoor).
The film opened to mixed reviews on Friday, but trade analysts say it could cash in on the long weekend ahead. However, it will be tested from Monday onwards, because most films face their true test at the end of the first weekend of their release. A case in point: Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif's recently released film Phantom. It opened to packed houses, but fizzled out without a trace on weekdays.
#Phantom Fri 8.46 cr, Sat 12.78 cr, Sun 11.94 cr, Mon 4.40 cr, Tue 3.63 cr, Wed 3.31 cr, Thu 2.88 cr. Total: ₹ 47.40 cr. India biz.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) September 4, 2015
