Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham share a close bond. They became friends on the sets of Dostana (2008), and the two also have a common interest — sports. While they were shooting for a film recently, John told Abhishek that he was proud of his contribution to kabaddi. The latter owns a team that’s part of a kabaddi league.

An insider says, "John appreciates Abhishek’s keen involvement in kabaddi. He said he was proud of him for drawing attention to the sport in India." Incidentally, both the actors love football too. They are also the co-owners of two teams as part of an Indian football league. So, they regularly chat about sports.

When asked if he, too, would like to do his bit to promote kabaddi, John says, "I would love to, but I am really tied up with my football team."

John is glad that the sport has become even more popular in India. He credits Abhishek for popularising it. "His contribution is huge. Hats off to Abhishek for the way he has promoted the sport. There are many actors promoting football, but he has done it for kabaddi single-handedly. The kind of traction kabaddi has received over the last year has been stupendous. The nation has woken up to the sport, which was previously just considered a small-town game," says John.
