Irish playwright and author Oscar Wilde is famous for his satiric epigrams, especially on marriage. His own — though throughly tested by his bisexuality and extramarital affairs — was based on genuine affection and his wife, Constance Llyod, supported him till his tragic end (he died a destitute in exile after serving a two-year prison term for being gay).
