Holocaust survivors to get insurance claims after 60 years

As many as 16,000 Holocaust survivors and their heirs who hold unpaid Holocaust-era insurance but lack documentation will receive the payments.

After almost sixty years, some 16,000 Holocaust survivors and their heirs who hold unpaid Holocaust-era insurance policies but lack documentation to prove their claims will receive a total of $16 million in payments.

The International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims (ICHEIC) will pay the claimants, who were so far ineligible to collect restitution, after they submitted "anecdotal evidence or recollections" in lieu of documents on their families policies.

The New York based ICHEIC in a press release said that undocumented claims were evaluated according to the criteria developed by former US National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, who currently serves as a senior advisor to its humanitarian claims process, local media reported.
