Maruti Suzuki joins UN Clean Development Mission programme
The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India on Sunday said it has joined the United Nations' Clean Development Mission (CDM) programme, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions from its operations.

"Taking forward its commitment towards a 'green world', India's leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki today announced its registration for CDM project with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)," the company said in a statement.
Under this programme, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) would undertake specific projects to bring down CO2 emissions in its operations that will help generate carbon credits for the company, it added.
The company claimed it is the first automobile manufacturer in the country to have committed itself to the United Nation's CDM project.
Commenting on the development, MSI Managing Director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi said: "We feel proud to be associated with United Nations prestigious CDM project. This initiative will further sharpen our focus and increase our responsibility towards environment."
The company will continue to focus on bringing in environment friendly products, using technologies and processes that conserve nature, he added.
Key initiatives undertaken by the company towards achieving lower energy consumption include installation of solar panels to power street lightings in Gurgaon and Manesar facilities, the statement said.
