The Nikkei average rose 0.4 per cent on Friday with exporters such as Toyota Motor Corp up after the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates steady and after a slight fall in the yen.
The Nikkei was up 62.27 points at 17,994.54 as of 0005 GMT. The broader TOPIX index gained 0.5 per cent to 1,759.95.
