Philips to rev up decorative lighting biz

Dutch technology major Philips Electronics plans to give a major thrust to its home decorative lighting business in India. The company is eyeing a large market in the country where lighting products have graduated from being a source of brightness to a lifestyle statement.

Dutch technology major Philips Electronics plans to give a major thrust to its home decorative lighting business in India. The company is eyeing a large market in the country where lighting products have graduated from being a source of brightness to a lifestyle statement.

The company will double the number of retail outlets for its home decorative lighting segment by the end of 2011. Philips currently has 350 such outlets.

“People have become much more aware of lighting, which has thrown up lots of opportunity for us,” said Philip Doorduijn, general manager, consumer luminaries, Philips.

The estimated size of the home decorative lighting segment in India is around Rs 600 crore.
