Rajan calls on Jaitley ahead of monetary policy

Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan on Wednesday called on finance minister Arun Jaitley and is believed to have discussed macro-economic situation ahead of the second bi-monthly monetary policy next month.

Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan on Wednesday called on finance minister Arun Jaitley and is believed to have discussed macro-economic situation ahead of the second bi-monthly monetary policy next month.

“I have no comments...,” replied Rajan on questions regarding the meeting.

The Governor, however, added that he would be holding a press conference in about two-weeks, in apparent reference to his post-monetary policy interaction with media.

The second bi-monthly monetary policy announcement is scheduled on June 7 amid clamour for further rate cut with a view to boosting the economic growth.

The Reserve Bank has reduced interest rate by 150 basis points since January 2015 with an aim to give a fillip to the economic growth.
