The BSE-30 share index, Sensex, dropped by 316.41 points at 18,973.42 in the first five minutes of trade.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty dipped by 135.60 points to 5,646.75 following a sharp fall in index-related stocks like Reliance Industries, Infosys, ITC, and Larsen and Toubro.

The Hong Kong share market tumbled by 3.2 per cent on opening on Thursday, dragged down by Wall Street's overnight fall amid worries over the credit crisis, a weak dollar and high crude prices.
