Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence were dispatched to the Jamnagar unit of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd Monday to "examine" some books of accounts, an official spokesperson said.

"It is a fact DRI officials are at the refinery. It is also a fact that they are examining some books of accounts. But it is too premature for me to say in what context the books are being examined," the spokesperson said in the Capital. "Let me also clarify that it is not a raid," the spokesperson said.

Reliance Industries, meanwhile, declined comment on the matter, with a senior official only seeking to point out that the presence of revenue intelligence officials at the refinery did not tantamount to a raid.

Reliance Industries, India's largest private sector enterprise, runs one of the world's biggest grassroots refineries at Jamnagar in Gujarat.
